Superconductor Cobaltites

چکیده

Since the discovery of high transition-temperature (high Tc ) superconductivity in layered copper oxides [1], they have held the pole position in the race for achieving higher Tc [2]. In this race many different compounds which contain copper oxide layers has been examined. Although there are reports of Tc s up to 185K for very rare phases of complex compounds like (Sn1.0Pb0.5In0.5)Ba4Tm5Cu7O20+[3] the highest Tc record for a single phase material belongs to Hg0.8T l0.2Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+δ [4]. Even though the highest Tc reported is higher than the coldest temperature ever measured on earth it is still far below the room temperature. As a result of the success of layered copper oxides, many researchers have searched for similar behavior in other layered metal oxides. Most of the attempts involving 3d-transition metals, such as nickel and cobalt have failed. But Takada et. al. [5] have reported that NaxCoO2 · yH2O (x ∼0.35,y ∼1.3) is a superconductor with a Tc of about 5K. Despite its low Tc this material has attracted considerable attention because of the similarities and contrasts between it and copper oxides.

A Mystery in Thermoelectric Layered Cobaltites; the Correlation between Magnetism and Transport Properties on the Two-Dimensional Triangular Lattice

Using muon spin spectroscopy we have found that, for both NaxCoO2 (0.6 x 0.9) and 3and 4-layer cobaltites, a common low temperature magnetic state (which in some cases is manifest as an incommensurate spin density wave) forms in the CoO2 planes. Here we summarize those results and report an almost dome-shaped relation <_ <_ between the transition temperature into the low-T magnetic state and th...

Studies on Bis-hydrazine Complexes of Metal Propionates and Mixed Metal Propionates

Metal propionate hydrazinates, M (CH3CH 2COO)2 (N 2H4 )2 where M = Mn, Co, Ni, Zn or Cd, and mixed metal propionate hydrazinates with cobalt, M i^Q ^^C H ^C I-^C O O ^^I-L t^ where M = Mg, Mn, Ni, Zn or Cd, have been prepared and characterized by analytical, magnetic, spectral, thermal and X-ray diffraction studies. The thermal decomposition of the former complexes yields the metal oxides while...

High-temperature behavior of Sr-doped layered cobaltites Y(Ba(1-x)Sr(x))Co2O5.5: phase stability and structural properties.

In this paper we present a neutron diffraction in situ study of the thermal evolution and high-temperature structure of layered cobaltites Y (Ba, Sr)Co(2)O(5 + δ). Neutron thermodiffractograms and magnetic susceptibility measurements are reported in the temperature range 20 K ≤ T ≤ 570 K, as well as high-resolution neutron diffraction experiments at selected temperatures. Starting from the as-s...

The crucial role of mixed valence in the magnetoresistance properties of manganites and cobaltites.

The mixed valence Mn3+/Mn4+ and Co3+/Co4+ in manganites and cobaltites with the perovskite structure is absolutely necessary for the appearance of magnetotransport properties. It is shown that in these systems the Jahn Teller effect of the transition element, the charge and orbital ordering and the oxygen stoichiometry play a key role in the appearance of large and even colossal magnetoresistan...

Ground state and the metal-insulator transition in (Pr1-yYy)1-xCaxCoO3 (0.45≤x≤0.55) cobaltites

Pr0.5Ca0.5CoO3 exhibits a non-conventional metal-insulator transition (MIT) in which the insulating state is due to a volume contraction (~2%) and electron transfer from Pr to Co sites. Pr1-xCaxCoO3 cobaltites with Ca doping around x 0.5 (0.45≤x≤0.55) have been investigated. Different ground states and phase transitions are reported in samples at both sides of the half-doped composition. The re...
